**SUPER-VALUE** Very Versatile Keyboard Protector Covers From Temu

By The Treasure-Sharer

universal clear keyboard protector from Temu promo adIf you're  like me and eat while using the computer, then you understand how problematic that can be. Eating juicy fruits like oranges can leave your keyboard sticky, berries can stain the keys, chips can leave flavor powder and bits, and cookies and pastries can leave flakes and crumbs.

My keyboard had accumulated years worth of food build-up from stuff getting under the keys, and I damaged my keyboard trying to pull the keys off and clean off the stuff underneath, at the time unaware that things existed specifically for cleaning keyboards that I could have used for this purpose.

Anyways, I'm totally the extreme of how NOT to care for your keyboard, so when I found silicone keyboard protectors on Temu, I knew that they were a must-have. They are a protective film for laptop keyboards that are made of very thin, flexible silicone, that come in different sizes to better accommodate different keyboards. Some are sold as small, medium, and large, sometimes mentioning what computer dimensions they are suitable for (for example, medium ones suitable for 12- to 14-inch computers, large ones suitable for 15- to 17.3-inch keyboards, etc.), while others mention specific dimensions (see the ad image below for the advertised dimensions), as well as different color options, including white, yellow, purple, blue, and pink (see the ad image below of the different colors available for the silicone keyboard covers). They are advertised as transparent, but are more like translucent, but you can still see and read the keys underneath.

spill and dust-resistant keyboard cover functions, taken from Temu promo adI actually had external keyboards I had bought from Temu because that was how bad my own keyboard was, so I had a lot of keyboards I wanted to protect. Even if you don't eat while using your computer, you can use it to protect your keyboard from dust when it is not in use, and protect it from accidental spills of water, coffee, etc. See part of the Temu ad for the silicone keyboard protectors, detailing some of their functions, to the side.

I bought a large keyboard protector for my main computer, one for my man's computer, one for my extra keyboard, and one for my parents' computer, which I sometimes use.

I think these keyboard protectors are very convenient and handy, because they can be used with different computer keyboards, are water-proof and dust-proof, and are easy to put on, take off, and wash off. You simply have to place it on the keyboard over the key pad, and pull it off when you're done. If you spill a drink or get juice from fruit on the protector, it will continue to protect. I haven't tried spilling liquid in the area outside of the protector, but I don't think it would keep liquid from seeping into the crevices in the areas outside of the keyboard's protection, and getting into other parts of the keyboard from there, if the spill started some place not covered by the protector.

To clean the keyboard cover, I just run cold water over it when it gets crumb-covered or sticky, and then hang it on a hanger to dry. They dry very quickly, and are ready to use again afterward. I really like their ease of use and low-maintenance care.

Because they're made of silicone, they're durable and flexible, and keep their shape well. However, I tried crumpling one in my hand like I saw in the advertisement (see a photo of me trying this out below), and it ended up leaving dents when I laid it back out again, so I don't recommend trying that. It still laid flat and worked, but I didn't like that it didn't go back to being completely smooth. I also tried rolling and folding one (see below), and I think it actually left a fold indent in the protector, so I would probably roll it, if you choose to transport it.

My man told me that, if he could change one thing about them, it would be to have one that was molded to his keyboard keys, as it sort of feels like typing on a flat surface to him. When I explained to him my reasoning for going for these universal keyboard protectors as opposed to fitted ones, he said that he understood. Ones made for specific keyboards are a lot more expensive, and also, the computers we are using are years old and will probably be replaced soon, which would necessitate buying a whole new protector, and render the old one useless, if it were fitted for a particular make and model. Ones that you can continue to use even after you've changed computers and upgraded them retain their value and usefulness.

Below are the small and medium sizes of the keyboard protectors:

I actually ordered a large size not once, but twice, and got a medium sent to me instead, both times. I have ordered a set of two large ones again, that will hopefully come in the correct size this time. I was thankfully able to get a refund on both wrong sizes without needing to return them, and I am using the incorrectly-sized ones on my laptop that needed the larger size, while waiting for the large one to come. I like that even if the size you get is too small for your computer, you can move it around to cover the keys that you use the most, at the very least. I don't use the side number pad of my computer, so I've been leaving those keys uncovered, for now.

See below to see how the keyboard protector that was supposed to fit keyboards that were 15 to 17.3 inches (with the packaging it came in even stating those dimensions!) definitely wasn't more than just over 14 inches (and the fold marks that were left in it, from it being folded, and from it and the packaging being battered a bit, during transport). It still stayed usable, but was just not as aesthetically-pleasing as it would have been without the noticeable indentations.

A use I haven't yet tried, but am thinking of doing in the future, is that, if you share computers at work, or for other reasons, or use publicly-shared computers, then you can carry a keyboard protector with you, and use it like gloves for your keyboard.

If you're a germophobe, or prefer to keep from touching things used/touched by sick people or people contaminated with and giving off something you can catch, then they may add an extra layer of defense, that can be washed/sanitized and reused afterward.

The paper that came with the protector said that they are anti-bacterial and anti-scald. See below to see the listed benefits:

As product feature #6 (see below, keeping in mind that the product is from China, and the writing about it is in broken English) says, "Special bacteria elimination processing causes it difficult to grow the bacterium and keep the keyboard clean."

Whether you are a messy eater or a contaminant avoider, the ability of these keyboard protectors to hold up under heavy use and during transport, and sit on and cover any keyboard, for such a good price, makes it worth buying at least one, that you can transfer between multiple computers.

I like having at least two, so that I can wash and dry one, while still having one available to use whenever I need a ready-to-use one. I like that the cheap price makes it affordable enough to buy extras.

Note that because they aren't perfectly fitted, it's possible for a few crumbs to sneak in, as I accidentally got a few crumbs in my man's keyboard while using it with one of these keyboard covers.

They have a shiny side that helps them stick to the keyboard, and a matte side to type on. See below for images of the two sides:

Ultra-Thin Silicone Laptop Keyboard Cover - Waterproof, Dustproof, Self-Adhesive Protective Film for Laptops, HD Clarity, Stretchable & Washable Design

Review:

Pros:

-universal design allows it to be used for different computer models, including Macs and PCs
-different sizes available to better suit the size of your particular keyboards (small: 10.6 inches, medium: 12.2 inches, and large: 14.37 inches for one kind, and maybe larger sizes for other available protectors)
-easy to type over -- you can still type with your computer while the protector is covering the keyboard
-very durable
-comes in five different colors: blue, pink, purple, yellow, and white
-translucent enough that you can read the keys underneath
-water-proof, and protects well against accidental spills, and sticky and wet foods
-dust-proof, and protects your keyboard when in long-term storage and not in use
-washable and reusable -- easy to apply and remove for cleaning and disinfecting
-very affordable, cheap price
-can protect keyboard from sticky fingers and crumbs, if you like to eat while using your computer
-can use on publicly-shared computers to avoid direct contact with shared keyboards
-could potentially be used to guard against germs and other contaminants potentially on keyboards
-suitable for business, office, and travel
-very thin material doesn't get too in the way of typing
-pretty non-slip -- stays on keyboard well, with the keyboard protector's shiny and somewhat sticky side sticking to the keyboard enough that you don't have to worry about it slipping or moving around while you are typing on your keyboard, at least in my case

-made for laptop keyboards, but still able to use on external keyboards
-very soft material
-not easily deformed when stretched freely
-can protect your keyboard and keys from being scratched
-very light-weight

-ads say that larger ones can be trimmed down to your computer size if they don't fit

-apparently anti-bacterial, anti-scald, and heat-resistant, according to the accompanying paper that came with the protector

Cons:

-can end up receiving the wrong size, multiple times -- might get one too small for your keyboard if you order a large
-not completely transparent as advertised -- more like translucent, but good enough to see all the keys through, at least
-stretchable, but doesn't stay the size it is stretched to, so that it pretty much covers whatever size it already is, and can't be stretched to a larger size to cover larger surfaces
-not fitted to a specific computer keyboard, so it could move around or allow food particles to get into your keyboard
-can feel like you are typing on a flat surface instead of feeling individual keys

-made for laptop keyboards in particular

Gem or Junk?

For us: Gem (4 stars out of 5)

Whether you're messy like me, or super-clean and mindful like my man, the silicone keyboard covers from Temu are definitely useful and worth buying, for their multifunctional nature. Whether you need them to protect against dust and spills, or keep food particles out of your keyboard, they work super-well, and are very easy to clean, and dry quickly. They can protect both while you are using your computer, and storing it away.

My big gripe with them has more to do with the sellers than with the product, since I ordered a large size twice from different sellers, and both times received a medium instead, so that I still don't have a large one (though, as I mentioned previously, I have ordered a set of two more large ones for 15- to 17.3-inch computers, hoping that they will come in the correct size this time).

My man prefers keyboard protectors made for and fitted to specific keyboards, but if you have an old model of computer that it is hard to find things made specifically for like his, or want the ability to use the same cover for multiple computers, then this universal keyboard protector is more versatile, workable, and affordable.

Gems For Who:

1) People who want to protect their keyboards against dust and spills.

2) People who eat while using the computer.

3) People who want to try a keyboard protector at a low price.

4) People who want a keyboard protector that they can use across multiple computers.

5) People who use shared keyboards and prefer not to touch items touched by other people they don't know or trust.

6) People who want a portable keyboard protector that they can carry with them in their bag or pocket.

7) People who occasionally let others use their computer, and want to protect their keyboard from outsiders.

8) People who want a keyboard protector they can still use even after they upgrade their computer.

Conclusion:

You know that something is good (and a good price) when I buy some for my man and family, buy more than one for myself, and continue to buy more. I think that the silicone keyboard protectors from Temu are worth having at least one of, and having multiples as spares and for travelling with. They are well-made, good quality, durable, and useful. Plus, they save you the cost of buying various keyboard brushes, keyboard vacuum cleaners, gels, cleaning kits, and more to clean your unprotected keyboard -- all of which usually cost even more than one keyboard protector, which is much easier and faster to clean than a keyboard.

They can save you a lot of money in the long run, which is why I recommend investing in at least one.
